Find your balance in motion. Ziya Azazi is the Dervish in Progress. His workshops provide the participants with an opportunity to get to know their bodies, their boundaries, their fears, in short, themselves.

We are happy to announce the continuation of our workshop series Searching Traces, which was founded in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Istanbul in 2014.  The dance workshop conducted by Ziya Azazi for displaced people living in Istanbul is this time also open for Turkish participants. This workshop organized by diyalog in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut will take place between April 6th and 11th at the Dancentrum İstanbul (Harbiye Çayırı Sokak No:3, Kat:3-4 Kısmet İş Merkezi, Elmadağ, Taksim).

Whirling is not the main objective of these studies but a mere means to reach it. Whirls help unfold the true energy of the participants by shaking their physical and mental states.

Everybody interested in the age of minimum 18 years is welcome to attend, no matter of professions or previous dance experience. Azazi pays individual attention to each participant, always considering his or her limits, knowledge and interests. The technique of whirling will play an important role during the workshop, although it is not its main objective. Whirls help to unfold the true energy of the participants by shaking their physical and mental states that they had so far been accustomed to.

The workshop refers to the global solidarity day for Planet Syria on April 7, undertaken by an alliance of 85 non-violent, civil groups from Syria coming together for peace in their country.

Ziya Azazi studied at Mining Faculty in Istanbul Technical University between 1986 and 1991, when he also studied gymnastics. In 1999 he was awarded with a scholarship by Summer Dance Week Vienna (Dance Web), and he was entitled “The Most Outstanding Dancer of the Year in Austria” by the Ballet International Magazine. Azazi also gives great importance to workshops. By passing on all the experience he acquired in time, he tries to guide other people in expanding their boundaries and in their discovery of the power within themselves.

The workshop will take place 6th of April until 11th of April in Dancentrum İstanbul (Harbiye Çayırı Sokak No:3, Kat:3-4 Kısmet İş Merkezi, Elmadağ, Taksim), from 11 am to 4 pm daily.

At the end of this 5-day-intense workshop there will be a after workshop presentation with all the participants.
