Imagination and Orchestration

In the parallel program of the 14th Istanbul Biennial different art residency programs from German-speaking countries, which are located in Istanbul, are going to be introduced. Entitled „Imagination and Orchestration“ some artists will present works dealing with the orchestration of reality. The current development of spaces through new media is building a bridge between a globalised reality and different periods of art history. In the baroque era for example there occurred a „revolution of space“: Isaac Newton’s gravitational theory and the mathematic construction of the immutable space were formed during a time of enormous religious and political changes such as the discovery of the New World. According to this, music, arts and literature developed the finesse of the multi-perspective and of the orchestration of ambiguities.

The 14th Istanbul Biennial is entitled „Saltwater: a Theory of the Forms of Thinking“. The exhibition is entitling the multiple dimensions of spaces as its frame. Not the surface but the underwater worlds of contexts are going to inspire 50 international artists to work interdisciplinary in more than 30 locations.
