Volker Bertelmann, the man behind Hauschka, is a Düsseldorf-based pianist who began classical lessons at age 9 and composed his first film music at age 18 for a German crime series. He is best known for his use of the prepared piano, an instrument that has its sound altered by placing different objects between or on the strings, or on the hammers and dampers.

Hauschka will have a performance happening as Mondavi Center presenting program on the 21st of May at the Vandrhoef Studio Theater California.
