The artist group G.R.A.M. – founded in 1987 – is an Austrian collective which works multimedia-based. They have had several international exhibitions, received various accolades and were awarded many grants in Los Angeles, London and Istanbul. Their best known works are the series Paparazzi, Reenactments and The House.
G.R.A.M. is dealing with a clichéd, iconic world of pictures and symbols, which are often borrowed from aesthetics of everyday life, mass media and products. The selected pictures are manipulated, put together in a dialogue and then amended.
In the piece The House the artists re-enacted affrays in parliaments according to multiple press photos. This approach refers to the differing perception of contemporary icons and questions the medium photography’s validity.
