I Am Playing Ping-Pong Now
Leaving Turkey in 1980 for imperative reasons, Stockholm based Halil selects issues from Turkey for his long-term projects. His intense interest in the problems of Turkey is seen in his work which is also a reflection of his personal journey.
Some have described Halil as a radical both in his life and in his art, never forceful, yet always insistent, pushing both himself and his subjects out of their relative comfort zones. A reckoning with his past has resulted in his work having no borders, no secrets, everything is laid bare before you.
In his second solo exhibition at the Empire Project – I’m playing ping-pong now- we will witness perhaps his most personal series of works to date. The works in the exhibition were selected from his most recent book published under the same title, which “centers around bodily pleasures and hurt.” The exhibition which started on December 4, can be visited until January 10, 2015.
Opening times: Tue-Sat- 11:00 – 18.30
