Body, Soul and Mind
IPA Sumer 2013 – International Performance Association Istanbul
IPA Summer 2013 is held with the support of Koza Visual Culture and Arts Association the second time in Istanbul and consists of three parts: a workshop that started on the 11th of August with renowned performance artists as teachers, the Festival entitled “Next Step” with public performances at different places and a conference about Teaching Performance Art. The public presentations of the workshops will be on the 18th August and will give an idea of the work which was done during the workshop week.

Jürgen Fritz and VestAndPage are this year’s teachers and helped to lead the participants to a point where they are aware of the movements, sounds and images created with their bodies. 12 artists participate in the workshop and experiment various methods to explore the triangle of body, mind and soul. Performance art – as one of the most ephemeral art genres – exists in time and space, in the moment when the artist is performing.
IPA Summer brings this specific and intensive art form to Istanbul where the audience can see various performances at Istanbul Modern, Salt Galata, Mixer, Sanatoryum and public spaces. The performances will be shown by the workshop participants, invited artists and the teachers. Jürgen Fritz is the director of IPA which was founded in 2006 in Germany. He is one of the founding members of Black Market International, a cooperation of artists which presents performances all around the world since 1985. His performance practice is based on situations that concentrate on basic movements and sounds that are brought to a climactic intensity like his performance last year at Salt Galata where he used the sound of a bell with the music of a musician from Istanbul. Verena Stenke and Andrea Pagnes have been working together since 2006 as VestAndPage in Performance art. Their approach to performance art focuses on the fragility of an individual and its surroundings which is transformed into poetic pictures and compositions.
