Mathias Poisson at Depo in Istanbul: Miniatures

[widgetkit id=8557]
Mathias Poisson explored Tophane. It is a quarter undergoing rapid gentrefication momentarily. Galeries and artspaces coexist with small entrepreneurs and homeless. Poverty is as present as the fascinating pulsing daily life of a place full of contradictions. The French artist, dancer and choreographer manifuctured colors from items he picked up in Tophane. Wodpieces, pomegranate-shell, rottening iron……… Collecting and producing he got a part of the quarter. The drawings were partly prepared with the help of a mobile table he carried with him. The drawings and the whole setup of the exhibition in Tophanes art space Depo, a former tobacco factory, are sarueated with an intensive interaction with the environment. Lovely, sensitive and intense work.

Miniature as a term refer to the Latin Word for Cinnabar. The color would be applied as tempera on the parchment. The manufacturing of the colors in Poissons work is corresponding with this methods as well as the focus on certain aspects in a certain microcosmos. Spending time in this exhibition unfolds very many different comments on the topic Tophane.  (Exhibition: 06.4.-21.04.13)
