El-Atlal Residency Programme

Open Call

Jericho10

In partnership with the Fondation pour l’Education et la Culture Franco-Arabe (FECFA), el-Atlal will be hosting an artists-in-residency programme in the city of Jericho in Palestine. The call is open to artists of all origins. A mythical city and an oasis in the Judean desert, Jericho is the oldest city on earth sat on the lowest point below sea level. As such, we believe it is an ideal place to allow artists to pursue their projects. el-Atlal wishes to link art and research by inviting artists and researchers to exchange and work together during the programme, providing new images of Palestine. Working in groups is not mandatory but is strongly recommended. The project will take form in a publication and possibly an exhibition.

The el-Atlal project is spearheaded by a team of young people coming from the worlds of arts, literature, academia and architecture in the goal of encouraging academic and artistic exchanges between Palestine and the rest of the world.
The first edition of the project was held in Amman (Jordan) in October 2015. el-Atlal hosted artists who were not able to cross the border to Palestine, the association is organizing a new residency for 2016. The programme will last one month and include several residents.

The artist-in-residency programme is open to any young artist (visual arts, photography, video, writing, etc.) or academic with a solid experience and a real motivation as to the specificity of Jericho. The selection will give priority to original projects that aim to be inscribed within the space of Jericho. During the programme, the residents will be asked to hold open studios with the public and to do a final presentation of their work at the end of the residency. A meeting with Palestinian artists will be scheduled.

The residents must speak English, Arabic or French
