It’s no use moaning.

On saturday, 10th of January, Karşı Sanat invites together with Stéphane Bauer, leader of Kunstraum Kreuzberg/ Bethanien in Berlin, and Julia Lazarus, a german artist currently working in Istanbul, for a discussion about the topic: The independent Art Scene in Berlin.

The title of the event ‚It’s no use moaning.’ suggests it: Being part of and persist in the independent Art Scene seems to be hard work and demand for ability to insert oneself.

How the players get along with the issues of Artistic Self-Organisation, of to have and to need in the field will be discussed by two of them as well as other questions they see the independent scene confrontated with.

Since 2002 Stéphane Bauer has been the director of Kunstraum Kreuzberg, where he is responsible for program and organisation of the institution. At the talking he will give an insight behind the curtain of an art center in Berlin. Kunstraum Kreuzberg aims to bring together actual social and cultural issues with contemporary fine arts like in the exhibition We are not here for fun! which took place in 2013 focusing on subcultural structures in Berlin in the 90s and their cultural productions.

Julia Lazarus, a German artist in residence currently working in Istanbul supported by the Grant of the Berlin Senate, will talk about Haben und Brauchen (to have and to need), an initiative establishing a consciousness and self-concept concerning what distinguishes the forms of artistic production and articulation that have unfolded in Berlin during recent decades . In 2015 she showed her work in the group exhibition Imagination and Orchestration at BAUART Gallery in the parallel program of the Istanbul Biennial. The Berlin based artist knows the scene of her hometown and of Istanbul and can talk about the current issues they have to deal with as the condition of production and presentation of contemporary art.

Exchange of empirical knowledge from players in the Berlin and Istanbul independent Art Scene shall generate a practical result for the purpose of impact for both sides.
