See Them Spinning

InEnArt is inviting you to join the presentation closing our latest dance workshop on Saturday, 11th of April. Around 12 people, partly coming from Syria, others from Turkey, have been dancing together in Istanbul for one week and are now ready to display what they have been doing.

Directed by professional dancer Ziya Azazi all the attendees got introduced to dancing techniques centring on the power lying within themselves and on ways to overcome own, personal – physical and mental – boundaries. Ziya Azazi is known for his performance „Dervish in Progress“ and amongst others transforms old-established whirling moves deriving from the Islamic Sufi tradition into contemporary dance perfomances.

With his workshop participants Azazi tried to concentrate on the motion of turning which allows participants to turn off what bothers them in their everyday life. Dancers were enabled to focus on nothing but their own bodies and minds and the whirls they are producing wearing the typical Dervish skirts.

The after workshop presentation will be held on Saturday, 11th of April, 4 p.m. at Dancentrum Istanbul (Harbiye Çayırı Sokak No:3, Kat:3-4 Kısmet İş Merkezi, Elmadağ, Taksim). Entry is free and some small snacks will be provided.
