Many ways are leading to the dOCUMENTA (13).
There is the political way: Again and again pictures, videos and installations can be found, that pick out violence, war and destruction as central themes. And it is done free from ideology and political messages, but with the intensity of the arts` language.
There is the way of nature: This is now finally the first green dOCUMENTA, full of Land Art and gardens, verdant wherever one is looking – and still it remains art.
There is the animalistic way, because the dOCUMENTA is also a DOGumenta. The animalistic runs like a thread through many artistic manifestations of this huge exhibition, but without the doCUMENTA becoming simply brutal and artless. But one thing is for certain: Never before the dOCUMENTA had so many non-human visitors, that were approaching some very exotic artefacts on gentle paws.
And there is, besides many other byways, the playful approach, the silver bullet of this dOCUMENTA. The question concerning the state of art nowadays is the central issue and already after the first days thousands of preview- and opening-visitors are giving the impressive answer: They are not getting tired to look, since this dOCUMENTA reveals the art in all of its endless aesthetic possibilities. This dOCUMENTA is offering a huge cabinet of wonder of the art in the 21st century in a serious as well as creative way, one that does not forget its history, but is radically contemporary at the same time. Luckily this world art show knows no dogma and no narrowing conceptual corset, despite all the tinsel of discourse that took place beforehand – it only knows many ways and especially long ways. With these everybody should treat him- or herself – one is going to get out of this labyrinth exhausted but metamorphosed.
