Featuring Kabul

In deep mourning

1780717_10151957138137993_1859052358_nTorsten Oertel, the nice, cheerful head of Kabul’s Goethe Institute, was found dead on Sunday April 20 at his room in Kabul.

It was not a crime, but apparently an accident.

Anyone who knew Torsten knew how much he loved playing practical jokes. We will miss his sense of humor and his remarkably commitment for the Goethe Institut and the people in Kabul.

We still remember with warm feelings the sunny morning when he picked us up at the third checkpoint at Kabul airport after our 36 hour journey to Afghanistan.

A small memorial service will be held on April 22 at the Kabul military airport befor his coffin will leave Kabul for Germany. All his friends are very shocked because everybody listed him among the very good friends in Kabul.

The final funeral service for Torsten will be held on Saturday, April 26th 2014 at 11 a.m. in the cemetery of Hachenburg, Germany.
